• Canadians spent $8.1 Billion in personal services in 2003.
• The year previous (2002) $7.6 Billion was spent on personal services, this is a 6.6% increase in one year.
• Personal care providers which include hair & esthetics accounted for 43% or approximately $3.5 Billion.
• Overall people are spending more of their household earnings on personal services.

Trends indicate the male population is spending more income on personal services.

Alberta Human Resources and Employment reports that currently over 10,000 Albertans are employed in the hairstylist field.  They are projecting an employment
growth rate of 1.6% - 2.6% over the next 4 years.

According to an Alberta Human Resources and Employment report that states Hair Stylists and Barbers
are one of 24 job categories that suffered skill
shortages in 2004.*
